Childhood ObesityEmotional Effects and Sedentary Lifestyles

The social and psychological issues of childhood obesity are perhaps even more intrusive on the child's life than the physical. Childhood is a critical time for the development of self-esteem, thus the psychological issues faced by an overweight child places even more urgency on the prevention of the problem.

Obesity is "one of the most stigmatizing and least socially acceptable conditions in childhood." (Schwimmer, Jeffrey B., MD ET AL,: Health-related quality of life of severely obese children and adolescents," The Journal of American Medicine, 2003, p. 1818). An historic study showed that normal weight children rank obese children as the least desirable friends. Obese individuals were described as lazy, dirty, dumb and deceitful. These descriptions were made by children as young as six years old (Must, Aviva, Ph.D., "Effects of obesity on morbidity in children and adolescents," Nutrition in Clinical Care, p. 9).

One study relates that the quality of life of an obese child can be directly compared to the quality of life of a child undergoing cancer treatment. They feel excluded from a variety of activities and have lower levels of self worth and self esteem. They are teased and withdraw from their peers. The physical limitations and inability to keep up with normal activities may lead to a vicious cycle of additional weight gain. Studies have also shown that obese children miss four times more school than healthy weight children, which could lead to decreased school performance (Schwimmer, p. 1814).

Depression and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) have also been linked to childhood obesity (Mustillo, Sarah, Ph.D., "Obesity and psychiatric disorder: developmental trajectories," Pediatrics, 2003, p. 854). ODD is manifested by a pattern of uncooperative and defiant behavior toward authority that can interfere with day-to-day functioning (www.aacap.org).

The effects of obesity effects have a lasting impact on an individual's life in childhood, through adolescence and into adulthood. Obese adolescents have lower education attainment, earn less money and have higher rates of poverty. Discrimination because of obesity has been documented toward adolescents in apartment rentals, employment opportunities and college admissions (Must, p. 9). Finding success as an adult is an enormous challenge, but especially daunting when faced with the physical, emotional and discriminatory effects brought on by obesity www.healthlink.mcw.edu.

Americans in general are much too sedentary. Children should have at least thirty minutes per day of exercise outside of school time (Hu,Frank B., M.D., Ph.D., "Television watching and other sedentary behaviors in relation to risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus in women," The Journal of American Medicine, 2003, p. 1790). Television, computers, and video games consume more and more of outside playtime. Television watching is the predominant sedentary behavior in children, second only to sleeping (Kaur, Haroshena, M.D., MPH, "Duration of television watching is associated with body mass index," The Journal of Pediatrics, 2003, p. 506).

Watching television is more strongly associated with obesity than other sedentary behaviors. This is because (1) watching television reduces energy expenditure by limiting time that children spend doing physical activities, (2) watching television leads to increased energy intake because it tends to lead to snacking especially with the inundation of junk food enticements, and (3) watching television has even less energy expenditure associated with it than other sedentary behaviors such as reading and writing. (Hu, p. 1790).

Increased time spent in front of the television can result in a net gain of 350 calories per day (combined loss of potential physical activity with snacking) that over a week would result in a 0.7 pound gain in body weight per week. (Epstein, Leonard H., Ph.D., "Effects of manipulating sedentary behavior on physical activity and food intake," The Journal of Pediatrics, 2002, 140, p. 334). These findings suggest that even in healthy, non-obese children, sedentary behavior can drastically increase caloric consumption while decreasing energy expenditure.

Child Visitation Rights in Child Custody Cases

Child Visitation Rights in Child Custody Cases

After a separation or divorce, if joint child custody has been awarded, child visitation rights are granted to the non-custodial parent. A court may grant short-term visitation rights to one parent, and the other will receive primary physical custody of the child during the divorce case.

In the case of a family law judge deciding that it is best for the child to maintain regular contact with both parents, long-term child visitation rights are granted.

Child visitation rights are not considered a given right. The court may decide that it is in the best interest of the child to grant sole custody to one parent, rather than to allow access rights to the other.

The non-custodial parent can still be ordered to pay child support in cases where access rights are denied. Child visitation rights and child support responsibilities are two separate distinct issues.

On the other hand, if a parent receives child support payment obligations and visitation rights, there is a chance that he/she will not lose their visitation rights even if they fail to pay child support.

However, there are many ways in which a parent can be punished for not paying child support; loss of access rights is simply not one of them.

So long as both parents can agree to the terms decided, child visitation rights laws enable parents to bring about a rational visitation plan, as long as the plan made is in the best interest of the child. A third party sometimes becomes involved in the making of a access plan, as they are unbiased and able to assist a discussion of both parents wants and needs in order to reach an acceptable agreement without going to trial.

If an agreement cannot be reached however, the court may intervene and determine the child access rights. In cases of domestic violence the courts may also decide on access rights.

An example of a usual visitation schedule would be the non-custodial parent spending time with the child on weekends and certain holidays.

Violations of a court order, relocation of the custodial parent, change of a parent's job, danger posed to the child by one parent are but a few of the reasons for child access rights to be changed. If a parent wishes to change any part of the access rights, they must petition the court. Child visitation rights aims to grant both parents the opportunity of developing a healthy relationship with their child.

Chicken Panini Recipe, an Innovative Breakfast Meal for Your Family

Being a mother or a wife is a very tough job. You are in-charge of everything in the house. You have to look after your children and husband's needs. Doing the groceries and cleaning the house must be done on a regularly basis. The hardest part is planning for your meals everyday. This is critical because you have to be as creative as possible. You do not want to serve your family the same food every day of the week. It has to be different and attractive in order to get them to eat.

Normally, the kids are the ones that tend to be picky when it comes to food. If you still have little children, your recipes must be interesting and nutritious at the same. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it should be a healthy and nutritious meal. You need to give them something that has enough energy to last for the whole morning. One great suggestion for this is making a healthy and delightful panini recipe. One nice thing about this recipe, it cuts your usual cooking preparation in half and you will still have more time to bond with your family while eating.

Here is an easy-to-do Grilled Chicken Panini Recipe that will add variety to your usual breakfast meal.

Ingredients:

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
8 slices of Italian bread
8 slices Mozzarella cheese
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons fresh rosemary, chopped
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tomato, sliced
Italian dressing

Procedure:
Set the griller to a medium-high heat temperature.
Mix the chopped rosemary, garlic powder, salt and black pepper together.
Brush the chicken with olive oil and add the mixed seasonings on it.
Place a small amount of oil on the grill grate and cook the chicken for about 7 minutes. Wait for the juices to get clear and for the chicken to be well cooked before you remove it from the grill. Then allow it to cool for 5-10 minutes.
Slice the chicken pieces about half an inch and sprinkle the pieces and bread with Italian dressing.
Put the tomato, cheese and chicken on the bread. Brush the bread with olive oil and put it on the grill.
Cook the panini until the cheese melts. Then remove from the grill.

To turn this meal into a 5 minute meal, cook your chicken ahead of time and freeze it cooked. When it's time to make your panini, place the cooked chicken in the microwave to defrost it before you place it into your Panini.

Pair your panini with fresh fruit juice or milk and your kids will enjoy a full-packed breakfast. You can also serve these delicious concoctions for lunch or dinner. Change the chicken to pork of fish if you want to be more experimental. It will then be a new recipe that your family will definitely crave. Just remember when planning a meal, try to be adventurous and innovative. Your family will thank you for it by cleaning off their plate.

Charcoal Barbecues Vs Gas Barbecues

Charcoal Barbecues Vs Gas Barbecues

Charcoal Barbecues Vs Gas Barbecues

Everybody has their own preferences when it comes to cooking some folks like to use a gas oven, some an electric oven, some people even prefer to cook everything in the microwave. This strong desire towards a preferred cooking style extends from the kitchen to the garden in the summer when it comes to cooking on the barbecue. The two main styles of barbecue are the classic charcoal BBQ and the young pretender on the block the gas BBQ. The barbecuing community is split between traditionalists who believe it is worth the trouble to start and maintain a charcoal burner for the conventional taste and experience and those who believe that it is not worth the time and go for the just as effective but easier gas burner.

Timing is Everything
First things first, fire! We all know this is one of the major draws for men and the barbecue, igniting the coals and watching them slowly come up to temperature. Tending the coals all afternoon whilst having a drink and building the expectancy is part of the fun of having a barbecue. However, there are issues with this kind of heat! It can take a long time for the coals to hit the right temperature and then there is the danger that you will not get the food on the barbecue in time and it will not cook in the time left in the coals and that you will have to begin the process over again. Although this takes some expertise once mastered it can become part of the joy of the barbecuing process, the next step is learning when to put on the food so that it cooks just right.

This is a major reason why so many people like the gas burner is that it heats up very quickly after only a few minutes whereas the traditional model takes around 40 minutes. This means that you can start the barbecue just before you plan to cook and therefore do not have to worry about it burning away in the garden particularly if there are children dashing about.

In Control of the Fire
It goes without saying that the fire temperature cannot be simply adjusted once lit, this is not the case with a gas BBQ which is one of the reasons that many people like to cook on these because you can get an consistent temperature and ensure that all the meat is cooked fully. This is a issue that can put people off cooking on a charcoal BBQ because they are worried about meats like pork and chicken not being fully cooked.

This can be done with a traditional barbecue it just requires more attention and a good understanding of the barbecuing process.

Taste Time
One of the main arguments for the charcoal BBQ is the flavour, because the food is cooked over the direct heat of the coals all of the flavour from the smoke is absorbed and comes out in the taste. To enhance the smoky flavour wood chips can be introduced that will smoke and infuse the food that is being cooked, you can buy wood chips that add to the flavour of a gas BBQ so you can have the best of everything.

However, a certain amount of the flavour comes from the fat from the meat hitting the heat and smoking, something that is achieved with a gas BBQ as well because of the meat fat hitting the grill. Some people think that the food tastes better when cooked over gas because it remains untarnished by ash and tar from the charcoal.

No Scrubbing Required
Gas barbecues are easier to clean because they use the very popular heat cleaning method where the heat from the barbecue can be used after you have finished cooking to remove the fat from the grill and it can then be scraped off the heat plates. Whereas with a charcoal barbecue you would have to dismantle the grill and tip out the ash and then scrape the meat fat from the grill. This is of course time consuming and not a very nice job so it is a key factor why so many people are choosing a gas barbecue over a charcoal one.

Final Thoughts
Charcoal BBQ's are incredibly popular because they are inexpensive to buy and with some people only using them a couple of times over the summer it does not make financial sense to spend a lot of money on a barbecue. However, if you do invest, a gas barbecue can be more cost effective in the long term..

Safety is an issue for some people who do not feel happy using gas canisters and don't like the idea of having a pressurized canister in their garden/shed. Although the chances of there being any genuine problems with a gas canister are minimal, it is an understandable concern and is a reason why so many people feel more comfortable with the traditional charcoal BBQ.

So, as you can see there are pros and cons to both charcoal BBQs and Gas BBQs and no doubt the debate will rumble on with both sides strongly arguing the benefits of their preferred way of barbecuing.

Challenge Accepted Issues Facing Legal Marketing Teams

Challenge Accepted: Issues Facing Legal Marketing Teams

Have you spent time in or around the legal profession? If so, youve probably heard your fair share of lawyer jokes.

Unfortunately, most jokes about lawyers dont paint attorneys in a great light. The underlying assumption is that lawyers are, at best, boring and, at worst, crooks.

So, when it comes to developing a marketing campaign for a law office, marketers have their work cut out for them. Prospective customers already have preconceived notions about lawyers.

A good marketers job will be to undermine those assumptions and show the value of sound legal advice.

Lets take a closer look at some of the challenges facing marketers for legal teams. Once we identify the challenges, we can develop a strategy for overcoming them.

The Legal Marketing Industry is Fairly New

For most consumer products, marketing and advertising have been around for a long time. This is not the case with the legal profession.

State bar associations once considered it unethical for attorneys to promote their services. This standard stayed in place until the 1976 Supreme Court case Bates vs. State Bar of Arizona. In this case, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of lawyers rights to advertise their services in a truthful manner.

Since that ruling, lawyers have had the same liberty to advertise as any other business. While this created new opportunities for lawyers, it also means that there is less of a history of legal marketing strategies to draw on.

This foundation challenge presents other difficulties for legal marketers.

Clients Lack Knowledge of the Legal Industry

Every marketer struggles with customer education to some extent. But this is particularly challenging for marketers in the legal industry.

Usually, when a person needs a lawyer, they are in a vulnerable position. Perhaps theyre getting divorced or making a personal injury claim.

To reach clients in these situations, marketers must communicate the value of an attorney. Additionally, they must set the clients at ease, and help them develop trust in the legal team.

A great way for lawyers to meet this challenge head-on is with content marketing. Strategies like blogging and social media engagement can be effective. These approaches make knowledge of the legal industry accessible to customers.

Technology has Shifted Marketing Strategies

Another challenge facing legal marketers is adapting to evolving marketing practices.

Lets look at an example. In the past, if someone wanted to find a Charlotte criminal lawyer, they would probably start with the yellow pages. Or, they would talk to folks in their personal network, and look for recommendations.

Times have changed. These days, most folks would use a search engine as their first approach to finding an attorney.

So, in order for lawyers to get clients, they need to make sure that clients can find them. This means building a robust online presence that customers will find and connect with.

Cellular Cleansing Is An Absolute Must For A Healthy Body

There is Cleansing and then there is the ultimate, cellular cleansing. Cellular cleansing has been the talk of the town, in recent years, especially among health conscious individuals. The benefits of cellular cleansing are enormous. Medical professionals are now recommending full cellular cleansing.

Health experts have stated that a healthy diet alone is not enough. A more proactive stance is needed to continuously heal the body and counteract toxic buildup of chemicals and waste.

By having a better understanding of various methods for cleansing, you will be in a better position to choose the correct procedure for yourself.

Below are 5 ways of cleansing one's body:

1. Colon Cleansing

In time, food particles will stick to the walls of your colon and cause an accumulation of toxic substances.

The colon can be cleaned through the use of a combination of herbal remedies which securely removes parasites, their eggs and waste through regular bowel movement.

This is a very efficient way of getting rid of disease-causing bacteria and toxic substances, in the colon. The process usually takes 7-10 days and is repeated every 3-4 months.

This is not the ultimate cleansing technique because you have toxins in every single cell of your body. This cleans the colon.

2. Ionized Foot Bath Cleansing

Another process of cleansing involves use of a small tub to soak your feet in water with cleansing sea salts. A small electrical current is passed through the salt water to charge the atoms and create a magnetic field producing osmosis.

These charged atoms will bond with the toxins in your body and excrete them through the pores of your legs and feet. This procedure normally takes a half an hour to complete.

3. Ozone Sauna Treatment

The ozone sauna treatment requires you to stay in a sauna. The pores of your body are expanded through contact with hot steam. This raises the temperature within and around your body. Ozone is then introduced into your bloodstream.

This is not ideal for people who have high blood pressure. The ozone is introduced in controlled concentrations which penetrates your body. This will neutralizes lactic acid, viruses, parasites, toxins, bad bacteria, and fungi.

The toxins are passed out of your body via sweating and the ozone kills the bacteria on your skin. An ozone sauna treatment lasts 30-45 minutes.

4. Alkaline Water

Major health benefits have been attributed to alkaline water consumption compared to regular tap water. Alkaline water makes the transportation of nutrients, minerals and food easier in your body.

It also speeds up the excretion of waste like acids and toxins faster from the body. It has antioxidant properties which reduce DNA and cellular damage by eliminating free radicals in the body.

It also regulates the body's temperature. Alkaline water can be taken regularly with no side-effects.

Alkaline water will change your body from acidic to alkaline. Diseases love acidic bodies but cannot thrive in an alkaline environment.

There is a liquid product that you can add to all your liquid beverages, as most beverages are acidic, especially coffee, that will change them to alkaline immediately. I use this product in every liquid drink.

5. Full Cellular Cleanse

This is the ultimate in Toxic cleansing. You can undergo several cellular cleansing processes in a day.

If you're serious about cellular cleansing and you want to thoroughly detoxify your total body, then I would recommend taking a natural health product such as an all cellular cleanse.

This is taken orally, with no side effects, and the toxins will be expunged from your body through your elimination.

A side benefit of cellular cleansing is a safe and effective way for weight loss. When you do a full cellular cleanse and rid the body of its toxins the fat will melt away. Very few companies are able to do a full cellular cleanse.

Cannabis vs Hemp Differences You Should Know About

Cannabis vs Hemp: Differences You Should Know About

With all the recent talk of the legalization of marijuana in over half of the country, more people are talking about the plant than ever.

But these discussions also lead to some pretty bad misinformation. Namely, there seems to be a common misconception that marijuana and hemp are the same things.

And while they do share some basic elements in common, this couldnt be further from the truth. From their respective uses to state laws, were breaking down the biggest differences between cannabis vs hemp.

Cannabis vs Hemp: Whats the Difference?

Using Cannabis

Well get this one out of the way: Yes, cannabis is mainly used for smoking. That isnt to say that recreational enjoyment is its ONLY purpose. Far from it, in fact. Yet, it is the key reason people harvest and use the plant.

Traditionally, marijuana is ingested in one of a few ways.

First is the standard smoking method. This one likely doesnt need an explanation. Its been around for thousands of years.

Next, some users tend to prefer the concentrated properties of THC oil. It contains tons of health benefits that are known to help cancer, anxiety, and seizures. In fact, THC oil can even be made into a skin cream to treat extreme cases of inflammation.

But the simplest ingestion method involves making edibles. A user creates a baked good and adds trace amounts of cannabis to the recipe.

Growing Cannabis

Cannabis is far more difficult to grow than hemp. It requires the right amount of light with the perfect temperature.

Speaking of plant growth, another key difference is size. And while cannabis and hemp look quite similar, there are some easy ways to tell them apart.

Cannabis plants are often smaller, shorter, and wider than hemp plants. If youre looking for a distinction, think of it this way: Cannabis grows out while hemp grows up.

Using Hemp

If cannabis is known as the recreational plant, hemp is its industrial brother.

Records show that hemp has been a massive staple in everything from clothing to buildings for centuries. Thanks to its long, thick fibers, hemp extract is an ideal choice for making some of the following:

Rope
Paper and cardboard
Fabrics
Bed sheets
Plastic
Fuel

There are so many uses for hemp that its become one of the worlds leading resources!

Lets look at paper production, for instance. Its estimated that one acre of hemp can produce as much as two to four acres of trees. Its literally a greener solution to manufacturing.

And while youre free to ingest it, youre not going to get the same experience as cannabis. While hemp does contain an amount of THC, it doesnt compare to the amount found in cannabis leaves.

Growing Hemp

Unlike cannabis, hemp is known to be far more forgiving in terms of production and growth. It requires less upkeep, nutrition, and maintenance.

Believe it or not, hemp extract is even healthy. Hemp seeds are high in protein as well as omegas 2 and 3, so sprinkle some on your salad next time you need more protein.

Cannabis vs Hemp: A Final Note

One final note: Both are technically classified as a drug. So, before you go about setting up your hemp crop, check with your states laws and regulations.

Each plant has its own distinct advantages. Cannabis, on one hand, is great for medical and recreational uses. In contrast, hemp is an industrial giant, playing a part in many products we love today.

Some might think of cannabis vs hemp as a competition. However, the reality is that both are great complements to each other.
